Use this source to review, reteach, or refresh your students' knowledge of complex sentences. You can use it to reteach complex sentences at the beginning of the year, to pull small groups for additional lessons, and use the projects for either unit reviews or as extensions for your advanced learners. This packet includes a note page for students on complex sentences, and 2 worksheets on subordinating conjunctions and dependent/independent clauses. A quiz covering all topics and answer keys are included.
At the end, there is a project by which you can assess your students' understanding and use of complex sentences in authentic writing. For the project, students will write their own poem using complex sentences based on "What is Pink" by Christina Rossetti. Students will create complex sentences of their own and arrange them in a question/answer format. Students also work with technology by publishing their poems using the app Scribble Press. For assessment, there is a rubric for the poems and a rubric for the technology skills.
These can add to your students' ability to include vivid, descriptive complex sentences in their writing in a grammatically correct format. Check out my store, The Literacy Lounge, for resources for these other parts of speech:
