Teaching sentence structures comprises a major part of the Writing Workshop. We've got to teach our students to use a variety of sentences in order to make their writing more interesting and have more clarity.
It's not easy, and it's not a one and done deal. You've got to continually instruct students on how to change their sentence structures. It's got to be part of their revision process.
This lesson is not meant to be taught all at one time or even in the order that it's presented. Use the information to teach and reteach your students about sentence variety.
I've tried to include a variety of examples as mentor sentences. I've also included several review slides.
