Sentence Task Cards to help your students practice editing, sequencing and paragraph writing. This bundle contains all the cards and digital access to sets 1 and 2. (36 sets in all) That's enough for one set each week of the school year!
You now have two ways to use these sentence task card. You can print the cards and the student response booklet. Or, you can use the digital version in your Google Classroom.
The printable set of task cards combines sequencing, editing, and paragraph writing. Each of the 36 sets has 4 cards. The 4 cards go together to tell a little story, or sometimes the beginning of a little story. Students read the cards and arrange them in sequential order. Then they edit the sentences, looking for grammar, punctuation, capitalization and spelling errors. Once those errors are found they write the corrected sentences in paragraph form. They also have the option to add a few more sentences to the paragraph by choosing one of the two ideas or coming up with their own way of finishing the story.
You can use these cards in centers, with small groups or as whole class lessons.
Easy to differentiate---You don’t need to have all students complete every step. You could arrange the sequence for a student and then ask them to circle all the errors. Or, you could circle the errors and have the student make the corrections. Students don’t have to write a paragraph. They can simply write the 4 sentences on their own piece of paper or in their learning notebook. Once the cards are laminated, students can use thin dry erase pens to circle or underline errors before they write the sentence or paragraph.
This packet includes:
36 sets of cards, 4 cards in each set. Each card has one or two sentence. The sentence may contain spelling, grammar, capitalization and/or punctuation errors.
Recording Sheet--one sheet for each set of cards. The recording sheet has student directions and space to write the paragraph. There is also a cover you can use to put together a student response booklet.
There are two ways to check answers for the printable task cards. QR codes are on each card so students can check each sentence. There are also answer key cards for each set. The answer key card has each corrected sentence and the completed paragraph.
Thorough teacher directions and suggestions are also included.
Digital, Google Interactive
The digital version can be used from Google Drive in your Google Classroom. To use the digital version you must have internet access. In Google Classroom, each of your students must have a Google account. All of these Google programs and accesses are free. Students move the sentences around to arrange them into correct sequential order. Then they type directly on the pages to correct the spelling, grammar and capital letter and punctuation errors. On the next page, they type a paragraph of their own.
The digital version is very engaging and your students will soon become expert editors! These digital paragraphs can be printed or saved for the teacher to evaluate.
****Be sure to save the file to your system before you open it. The link to the Google Drive may not work unless you open the file from your computer or saved location.***
