“Sentence Writing Activity – Cut and Paste: People" is a quick and easy literacy center activity designed to help your students “make sense” out of sentence writing.
While many younger students succeed best when physically engaged, the manipulating of materials also helps them build good eye-hand coordination skills, as well as the fine motor skills necessary for reading and writing.
Color-coded (subject) nouns, (action) verbs, and common phrases – made primarily with sight words - provide for faster and more effective student comprehension. The student chooses, and then cuts and pastes together a sentence that makes sense.
A graphic - on every worksheet – helps with better comprehension also. As an extension, the student will illustrate the sentence, and name its main topic (the subject). Ten worksheets are included.
Note: Both present tense and past tense action verbs are provided for your convenience.
Suggested use is for second and third graders … and for any others who may benefit from the simple, direct, hands-on practice of sentence writing.
Extension: For a bulletin board display, add an eye-catching headline above their work (e.g., Fishing at the Lake).
