Sentence Expanding for Beginning or Struggling Writers
Sentence expanding is a crucial skill for young writers. Help your students improve their writing by adding adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases and more details! After teaching parts of speech, have your students put their knowledge to work by building a better sentence! Students start with a basic subject/predicate sentence then add compound subjects and predicates, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases to make the sentence more interesting! Students are also asked to illustrate their growing sentence to visually "see" how adding details makes their ideas clearer to a reader.
