NEW! This sentence writing resource can address many beginning writing skills for students in grades K-2. (This is targeted for first grade, or beginning second grade.)
24 Student Practice Pages:
Print-friendly, all black and white only (allowing for coloring if students wish).
No cutting and pasting-- Kids will write directly on lines with dashes.
On each page, students read a question with a picture at the top. Students answer each question using the words at the bottom, rewriting them in order to form a response in a complete sentence. They will practice writing complete sentences in response to a question using capital letters, punctuation and checking their spelling with the words at the bottom of each page. Predictable sentences help scaffold hesitant writers. Frequently used words such as what, can, do, and both singular and plural nouns are found in this file.
After writing, they may have an opportunity to color the picture.
This set works well for writing stations or independent work, and early finishers. But it can also be an effective resource for ESL students and older students who have special needs in writing.
The last page has the questions and the response sentences. Use this as answer sheet, but the best use is for fluency practice.
After all the pages have been completed (over time), hand students this last page, "24 Questions and Sentence Responses", and have each of them practice reading and rereading the text to a partner.
(Optional: Bind the pages together, including a copy of “24 Questions and Sentence Responses”, so they can look back and reread the text for fluency practice.)
