This set of activities focuses on building stronger, better, richer sentences. There is a terms work that can be completed whole class, small group, paired or individually. It is meant to be a 10 minute warm up each day to revise and refresh student learning.

This PowerPoint reflects the learning for Year One, Term 1 but can be used whenever the need arises to either teach, reinforce or assess. There are 4 Power Points, one for teachers with all the information, one for students to complete individually with editable weeks and the worksheets for students one for editable weeks and one for non editable weeks. I deliberately did not add the worksheets as a PDF as teachers can decided how best they can be used.

I made these resources to supplement the FREE Sentence a Day program that can be found on my website OnButterflyWings. This was a compilation that I added Literacy progressions and trackers to as well as sentence ideas gathered from around the web to include in your lessons.

1 Specifically teach the Subject-Verb-Object pattern.

2 A statement tells you a complete message.

3 Complete the sentence by adding an object and a verb to the subject..

4 Statement sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Make the sentences correct by adding a capital and a full stop in the correct places.

5 Make these sentences sensible. (Putting the words in the correct order)

6 A question is a sentence that asks you something.

7 Writing questions:

8 A statement is a sentence that tells you a complete message.

9 Write a question.

10 Assessment: Write at least 3 statements, in five minutes, about a visual image

Assessing use of: Capital letters, full stops, makes sense.

Each slide has a brief snapshot about the focus activity for that week. Below is a small snippet of what it might look like, however it does go into more detail.

simple sentence expresses one thought. It has one subject and one verb (or verb group).

I have also created editable slides for each week as well so that you can add your own learning goals and success criteria

Students can share, discuss and reflect on their learning.

This is entirely interactive and also has student B/W worksheets so student can consolidate their learning.
