If you have used mentor sentences in your classes before, perhaps you have came across the same issue as I have: the kids just can't keep up with their work from day to day! Or maybe you are attempting to save the world one piece of paper at a time and would like to take your current mentor sentence program digital?

Please see the "READ FIRST" page included in the download to gain access to the Google Slides template version.

This FREE template has been adapted from Kelly Gallagher's Sentence of the Week program described in his book Teaching Adolescent Writers. Explicit instructions and dialogue tags to guide students in the right direction. It follows a three day process:

Day One- Notice

Students read and analyze three sentences that contain the same writing/grammar rule, then as a class, they describe what they notice about the sentences.

Day Two- Imitate

Students use the rules they noticed the day before to compose their own original sentences.

Day Three- Apply

Bring it all together to compose a paragraph using what was learned this week and tie previous lessons into it as well.

*This template does not contain any original materials from Kelly Gallagher and is not meant to replace his work. This is just a digital way to help keep your students organized and paper free!
