Build a Sentence is meant to enhance understanding of sentence structure and to encourage using capital letters and punctuation.
This packet includes writing paper and cut out words in which they are to manipulate into a proper sentence. They key is to build the word properly before transferring it to writing, causing students to think before writing. Use this activity to encourage asking questions before writing, "Does it make sense? "Does it look write?" "Does it sound write?" When students ask themselves these questions before they transfer their idea into writing, they are using meaning, structure, and visual queues to enhance their writing skills!
Here are the directions for the activity :)
Use these words to form as many sentences as you can! After cutting out and forming sentences, have students write their sentence on writing paper. To enhance their learning and understanding, have them add an illustration. Remind students that when they write their sentences to use capital letters to begin and to end with punctuation.
