This lesson includes a sentence structure practice worksheet and exemplar that could be used as a model for kids or to guide the instructor in creating his/her own exemplar with relevant examples. Students are asked to compose two sentences of each type of sentence structure. This can be done as a guided practice portion of the lesson. The teacher should first model how she created the sentences and then, the students will practice. When the first side is done, and the teacher has done an informal assessment to ensure students are ready to move on, the second side of the worksheet asks students to apply their practice in a paragraph about what they enjoyed most or least about eighth grade. Students should then label each sentence, so the teacher can determine if the student has composed the sentences accurately and is aware of the different types of sentence structures.
