Sentences - Writing / Revising / Editing - Grade 1 - Teacher Lessons is a group of teacher lessons that introduces writing sentences in a series of sentence writing lessons for students in Grade 1. Included in this product are 20 instruction lessons for the teacher to conduct with his or her class. These lessons can be used as mini lessons to introduce the students to sentence writing, revising, and editing. The lessons include pages that can be converted into transparencies for modeling and instruction. Student practice pages are also included for students to practice the skill introduced in the lesson. Students will be correcting for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling of sight words as well as expanding sentences by using interesting and exciting nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. A "Punctuation Card" is included that shows a period, a question mark, and an exclamation mark. This page can be copied and cut up, enough for each student, so that when a sentence is shown that is in need of punctuation or a correction made in the punctuation shown, the students can hold up the correct punctuation card.

A list of sight words is included in this packet of teacher lessons. These are basic grade 1 sight words. The sight words are written throughout the 20 sentences that need to be revised, edited, and rewritten by the students. There is also a complete list of the sight words that will be used in the entire series. The "Teacher Sight Word List" shows all of the sight words for the entire series.
There is a group of "Sight Word Flashcards" included in each set. The group shows all of the sight words for the entire series. The teacher may or may not eventually order more than one set in the year long series. If the teacher does, there will be duplicate flashcards, but the teacher does not need to download that set up pages. These flashcards can be copied, cut out at school or home, and used at school or home to practice the sight words.
A group of "Sight Word Practice Cards" is included in the teacher lessons. These cards show five sight words on a card. There are four cards to each page. The teacher prints out what is needed and makes enough copies for his or her students. These can be used for reading or spelling practice. The teacher or students cut out the cards. The cards can be used for individual students to practice the words, a pair of students to practice together, or a small group of students to practice.
There is a spelling practice sheet. It can be used to make as many copies as you need to have students give each other a short practice test of the sight words that are included in the teacher lessons. You can pair students, have them give each other the spelling test, and have them correct the papers on their own. You may include the practice test as part of a center. Use it however you like.
A set of student checklists and rubrics is part of the teacher lessons. Students can use the "Student Sentence Writing Checklist" to check over sentences that they write and correct, if necessary. There are two checklists. One is a bit easier than the other. The students can also use a "Student Sentence Writing Rubric" to evaluate their own sentence writing or those of other students. There are two rubrics to choose for the students. A "Teacher Sentence Writing Rubric" is included for the teacher to use to evaluate student sentence writing.
I hope you find these lessons and sentence writing materials effective in helping your students become successful writers.
