Join the September Language Club to get a bundle of games at a reduced price! Each week I will update this product and you will receive a brand new language game (PreK-5th grade level) that you can use with your students.
Week 1 - Cool Cats Category Exclusion
There are 32 category exclusion cards and 8 additional game cards included in the printable pack (available in color and black/white). The words chosen for this game are academic vocabulary words that students use in ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science.
Have students pick a card and identify the word that doesn’t go with the others. Then have the student explain why it doesn’t go. Students earn the points noted on each card. If a game card is chosen, follow the directions on the card.
A NO-PRINT activity and group/individual data sheets are also included in this set.
Week 2 - Total Language Connections Interactive Notebook 1
This interactive language notebook pack incorporates a variety of skills and strategies that are curriculum-based. This year our school made a list of strategies that are considered non-negotiable when instructing our students. Some of the things we listed include: cross-curricular writing, academic vocabulary, work binders/notebooks, differentiated instruction, meaningful homework/practice. This set allows me to accomplish all of that during my therapy and intervention sessions
The activities created in this interactive notebook include language and vocabulary skills in the 1st and 2nd grade curriculum maps in my school district. However, I’m sure you will find that many activities are universal. Blank templates have been included so you can adapt this to fit specific curriculum targets your kids have.
These activities are meant to take 15-20 minutes so that you have time to incorporate a game into your session (which is what I do). However, depending on the students, you may end up work on an activity for an entire session (or two). The goal is for students to learn and apply curriculum-based skills that they can generalize to the classroom.
High frequency words
Using action verbs
Multiple Meaning Words
Like the idea of having an interactive notebook for your students, but worried that all the additional printable pages are too much to print and made be less efficient and costly? Then try this! You can work on the same activities with this NO-PRINT VERSION. All the skills and activities in the printable notebook are also available as a NO-PRINT. Just display this NO-PRINT on a tablet, computer, Smart Board or other screen and have students complete the same activities in their interactive notebooks.
**This set does not include data sheets because the notebook serves as your data collection**
Week 3 - Dinosaur Describing
This picture-based vocabulary game includes 45 picture cards (on dinosaur eggs), a game board and 10 prompt question strips. All printable materials are available in color and black and white.
Print and tape the 2 game board parts together, overlapping the pages by about an inch (laminate if desired). The game board connects long-ways (so it will be 8.5” by 21” when put together). Use any game pieces and dice you choose. I have little dinosaur figures for my students to use when playing.
The goal of the game is to get to the volcano first. Place all the egg cards face-down on the game board (or in the center of the group.
Each player will pick a card and answer at least 2 of the questions from the dinosaur. I plan to choose the questions depending on the level/need of the student playing that turn. For some students I will ask them to describe the object/animal with 3+ details. Additional strips are available so you can create your own questions if you choose. OR use the strips to create sentence starters for student who need support with using complete sentences.
A NO-PRINT set of cards and data sheets are included in this pack.
Week 4 - Haunted Homophones
There are 42 homophone sets and 6 additional game cards included in this pack. Cards are available in color and black/white. Print, cut and laminate cards. Shuffle them and place in a pile face-down in the middle of the group. Have players take turns picking a card, reading the homophones and providing a meaning for each homophone (or use each homophone in a sentence). Players keep their cards as the game is played. If a “BOO” card is picked, the player must put all their cards back in the middle. The player with the most cards at the end of the game session wins!
A NO-PRINT version of these cards and individual and group data sheets are also included in this game pack.
