I use this journal for my elementary special education class. It would be appropriate for K-2 general education classes also. I write a morning message on the board, and the students copy it into their journals. Our journals are one -inch binders where we collect all of our work for a month, track IEP goals, and practice our writing and reading skills.
To address the need for low level, high interest reading material that is age appropriate, the journals are a great tool for students to write and read about intriguing and seasonal topics.
Each journal entry has four handwriting lines to write on. This is usually just enough to write/copy:
"Today is Monday.
September 9, 2013.
A one-sentence prompt of your choosing..."
