We all know the importance of repeated readings in the development of fluency. We also know this can be a tedious chore for kids, especially struggling readers. What if there was a way to practice fluency without that tedium? This just might be the activity for you!
Students roll a die and read a passage of text (provided by you to assure the reading level is appropriate), in the voice that corresponds to the number rolled. There will be giggles, but there will also be motivation as they improve accuracy, pace, and expression!
This activity can be used independently with partners or small groups, in addition to teacher-supervised groups. I've even sent it home as homework to the delight of students and parents. My kids particularly enjoy using seasonal poetry and songs to practice. It's a very popular station in my classroom.
Color and b&w versions are included.
