Is your child having a difficult time with their writing in class? Do they need practice working on sequencing events in their stories? This is a great packet to practice this.
I use this template to get my kids to begin writing short stories in 1st grade. At the beginning of the year we work on these together. As the year goes, we slowly move into them working on the more independently. At the end of the year, the kids should be able to do these on their own. There are 60 pages- each page has a color copy and a black and white copy.
At home, your child will print a page that they would like to write about. Each page has a picture and a topic of something they can do (like painting a barn). Then there are three squares where the kids can draw what they would do to accomplish that task (for the barn- maybe first get paint and paintbrushes- next, pour the paint into a pan- then paint the barn). They can also make notes about their picture- at the end of the year with my students we try to write adjectives in there...like big brushes.... pour the thick paint... paint the red barn...
Once they have finished with the boxes, your child can write their paragraph. Please have them remember to write what they are doing (painting the barn) as their first sentence.
