READ. DRAW. FOLD. That’s how students become book authors! This DIY Story for first and second graders is about a 10-year-old dragon who wants to have a birthday party.
As a Thank You to my Followers, this amazing download is offered for free initially!
Once you read students the opening page and the two sentences on the second page, they can draw a picture or write a sentence that goes between the sentences on the page. If they can’t figure out what to draw or write, they can look at the bolded words on the page. Then they can continue to the next page. This sequencing practice eventually becomes an 8-page, double-sided booklet for students, with your folding help or the folding help of parent volunteers.
Because each student ends up with a booklet that he or she uniquely created, students grow in their motivation to write other DIY Stories and continue practicing their sequencing skills!
Note: Drifty's Fire-Breathing Birthday is also available for older students -- for third, fourth, and fifth graders. Search for it by title here at TeachersPayTeachers.com!
