While taking the MAP test, I noticed that my first grade students were given countess tasks where they were asked to manipulate scrambled words to create complete sentences. The students had completed such tasks in class, but seemed to freeze without their scissors and glue! I created this fully EDITABLE PPT to allow the students to manipulate the words using my SmartBoard/InterWrite board to create a more test-like situation.
There are 36 complete sentence scrambles. The first half have capital letter and ending punctuation mark clues. The second half do not have capital letter and ending punctuation mark clues. Use the tool to demonstrate the skill, then have the students manipulate the sentences in pairs or small groups during center time.
I used the 2013 Scott Foresman Reading Street Program (First Grade) to create my sentences to increase readability. Each story has a corresponding scrambled sentence. Feel free to edit the file to fit your needs.
