Handout in PDF format contains 4 pages of practice for Ser vs Estar with 55 fill in the blanks sentences that make connections to the culture of Puerto Rico.
I usually have a map of Puerto Rico as a visual on the board as students walk in. As a Do Now I have them fill out a KWL chart. Afterwards I quickly review the rules for using Ser vs Estar and then review using the handout. The first page is done as a whole class activity, the remaining pages are done with partners (paired work activity).
As a closing activity we review the answers for the remaining three pages and then students state when to use Ser vs Estar. I write the memory jogger on the board (STOP the ELF). Key is provided.
For HW I ask students to select as Spanish speaking country and write ten sentences using SER vs Estar while making connections to that country, They are allowed to use the handout as a model.
Handout can be used as a review or a quiz.
