Total Tennis Takeover!

Quite the description for one tennis great, Serena Williams!

I created this product so that students could learn more about her great accomplishments, and of the course that it took to reach such heights. Serena Williams is a living legend in history. Black History Month is a wonderful time to study and celebrate her, but truly, her accomplishments can be celebrated at any time of the year.

Serena Williams inspires us:

~During Black History Month
~Springtime
~For any Social Studies lesson
~To compliment a unit on sports/athletics
~Year round
~To inspire students to persevere
~United States history


Appropriate For:

First Grade students- with or without support depending upon the strength of their independent reading and/or comprehension skills.
Second Grade students
Third Grade students whose reading or reading for comprehension skills may not be as strong at this time.

Suggested Uses:

~Interactive Notebooks/Journals
~Literacy Station activities
~Small Group
~Whole Group
~Need to save paper?
~Projected onto a Smart Board or White board
~Print a few copies in color, laminate them, and place them in a Center for students to complete. Place copies of pages that students need to write on in sheet protectors.
~Uploaded to an application on an iPad

Reading passage- 2 versions for differentiation (color and black & white)
Reading comprehension questions- 2 sets
Graphic Organizer- Serena Williams “Is”/”Has” with lines and without lines
Dictionary Page- Students will/can record any words from the passage that they do not recognize or know the definition for.
Writing paper (2 versions)- one with handwriting guide lines, one with single lines
Free writing/Creative writing paper
With lines/without lines
