In this document I outlined in detail what I did with my class to fulfill a service learning requirement within a Literature and Writing curriculum. The project was starting from scratch, we created an idea for writing a book about Hmong culture to help educate our community on the Hmong people, history, and traditions. The academic aspects were all about story line, plot, structure, writing, editing, revision, etc. The service part was about reading to others and donating books to local schools and libraries so others could access them.
I have a step by step plan for how to implement and complete this service learning project as well as plenty of examples and extra resources. There are videos at the end to support some of the learning aspects as well as some mini lesson plans to guide the instruction of this. Overall this is a comprehensive plan on how to implement a book writing service learning project. Although my plan was very specific with Hmong culture and tradition the topic of the book can be anything and this plan and the resources would still be useful.
I wrote this resource while completing the project and then edited after the project was completed. The project is well structured and academically rigorous with room to add or edit based on the level of the students.
