Session I: Trees as a Crop-Tree Height Calculation Methods
Interactive Mini Lecture Worksheet ( 52# responses)
This is the first in a series of Trees as a Crop lessons that includes another skill/project to maximize student engagement.
Lesson Objective: After studying this lesson students will be able to calculate the height of a tree or other tall object.
In this lesson, students will learn all three tree height calculation methods, do an in class exercise for each, build a measuring tool, and go outside and measure a tree’s height using all three methods.
Minilecture 1 will present the three methods and describe each.
Minilecture 2 will provide an in class exercise for each to ensure understanding of the methods.
Minilecture 3 will provide instruction on the building of a clinometer and the student will go outside and measure a tree’s height using all three methods. The student will make a comparison of the three methods and record the data to determine the accuracy of the three methods.
This packet includes the following:
Bell Work: aka 'Smart Up'
Anticipation guide (initial)
