Teach kids setting words for where, when, and weather using the Setting Poster (pages 4-13). Poster needs to be taped or glued together to create 2, 5 page long posters that are identical to the student bookmark. Looks nice when printed on colored cardstock.
Kids then use the bookmark as a resource to refer to while determining the setting in the book they are reading. Print pages 1-2 front to back, and then cut vertically to create 2 bookmarks.
This setting graphic organizer (page 3) has three sections for students to write where, when, and weather setting words that are found in a book. It is generic and can be used with any book. Print double sided to give students 2 opportunities to determine setting from 2 different books.
The graphic organizer can also be laminated and used in a center or during guided reading.
In the lower grades, this might take about 3-5 reading classes to complete. It can be extended longer if extra support is needed.
