Want to improve your students' independent writing? Need a tool for progress monitoring writing?
These punch cards tailor goals to the individual needs of your students. I looked at their fall writing samples and created these cards for the 6 most common errors. Each card has a space for student name, a specific goal, a visual example of the goal, plus space for eight punches.
My students keep their punch cards in their writing journals as a bookmark. Then, they have it right in front of them, while working. I love giving my students an opportunity to take control of their learning and improve their skills.
When I conference with students, we talk about whether they are working towards their goal. If so, they earn a punch. If not, we revise and try again the next day.
What do they "get" when they fill their card? I try to choose rewards that make writing even more fun - writing with colored or smelly pencils, a fun eraser, typing their writing on the computer for a day, etc. Or use other rewards you already have in place.
Once students have mastered a writing skill, they can move on to another goal. I will be adding more punch cards as I have need - feel free to request! With your purchase, you can re-download all the updates.
