Peace Places go by a lot of names – Calm Corner – but all mean that they are a safe, quiet place in the classroom for our students to get away. Our kids have a lot going on both inside and outside of school, and it’s all but impossible to learn when you’re not
emotionally ready. A Peace Place allows students to take the time they need, build their
mindfulness skills, and come back to learn when they’re ready to learn.
This product has some easy tools and tips for setting up a Peace Place in your classroom. The student-facing guide and menus are more upper-grade friendly, but the setup tips for teachers would apply to any grade. It's not currently editable, but hopefully it will be in the future!
- a few versions of a sign to label your spot
- guidelines for student use
- tips for gathering materials to set up your own spot
- menus for kids both at the Peace Place and for at-your-seat mindfulness choices
Having a Peace Place in your classroom gives your students a place to feel safe and in control, validates their emotions, and allows them to process them rather than avoid them. Giving our students trust, space, and the ability to become more mindful makes our communities and our learning stronger!
