I created these short routine descriptions, which I use at the beginning of the school year as my students get acclimated to the classroom. I print them out and laminate them, so that I can use them each year.
The day before school starts (we usually have a back-to-school picnic), all of the students come to visit me. I usually write a message for the students to read, after which, they go on a scavenger hunt, searching for the animals, and reading the signs.
After they find all of the animals, I give them a back-to-school goodie bag (see my “Welcome Back” packet).
It's a neat way to help students feel more at home, and ready for the first day of school because they know how I organize the classroom.
I usually remove the signs after the first term, sometimes sooner, when it’s clear that the students know all of the routines. At the end of the school year, I sometimes ask students to think of different routines we can add for the next year’s students.
Thanks for visiting!
