Using the Aboriginal Seven Teachings students learn about the key teachings and the animals that correspond with each. The students make a personal connections and are able to identify which of the seven teaching that they identify the most with. Using a variety of poetry forms the students create a poetry book that is describing the animal and / or the trait that it represents. In this package the students will be provided with all they need to create their own poetry book. It is important that the seven teachings are taught prior to starting this unit. For middle years students a good resource is books by Canadian Author David Bouchard. The pages for the poetry does not have lines, as we encourage students to be creative with their style of writing.
