This is not a typical Sex Ed Curriculum. It is something I developed over time and used with lessons from the Choose the Best curriculum. My purpose wasn’t to scare kids about disease or pregnancy but to inspire them to consider their choices in terms of their future. For the students to do this, I introduced them to concepts that they had not considered. We spent our time discussing the wonderful Differences Between Men and Women, What is Love (how to recognize love when you see it — the opposite of love is selfishness), the Steps of Intimacy (everything that humans do from eye to body to the sex act) in terms of healthy boundaries, disease and the law), the consequences of Sexual Choices in terms of their future, has a choice of stories about the consequences of a sexual choice (Health Literature). Kids relate to stories in a way they don’t with facts. I always ended the unit and the quarter with Sexual Contracts. The Male/Female contracts are a tongue in cheek summary of potential costs. Who will pay those costs and for how long. You will love the discussions fueled by the contracts.
