Sexual Harassment is an issue, even in elementary school. It is a type of bullying behavior that can have devastating effects on the well-being of a student.
This is a PowerPoint presentation that I have utilized several times to define what sexual harassment really is as well as teach students how to respond to incidents of sexual harassment. It has 22 slides and lots of animation to help keep the students' interest as you are teaching. I like this lesson for several reasons. It helps me to stay on point and to address all of the issues that go along with this type of bullying behavior. It also helps to keep me organized so that I am presenting the information in a manner that is easy to understand.
This can be used for lots of different age groups. It has no graphic language or examples, so it should not offend or embarrass anyone.
It clearly defines sexual harassment as any behavior that causes another to feel uncomfortable. It also helps kids to understand that they need to let the offender know that what is happening is offensive. Bystanders are encouraged to stand up and be a support system for the targets of harassment.
It includes examples of the following types of harassment: physical, verbal, non-verbal, online. There is a link to a short video from NetSmartz that talks about online harassment.
