Product Description

With this poster project, students create a simple model showing how asexual reproduction produces offspring identical to the parent and sexual reproduction produces offspring that have half of their genetic information from each parent.

This project aligns with NGSS MS-LS3-2: Develop and use a model to describe why asexual reproduction results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation.

Materials: per student 12” X 18” construction paper, manila folder, ruler, markers, internet access, crayons, copied instruction & rubric

Included in this resource:

Page 2: Teacher Tips

Pages 3-4: Student Guide- Visual and written instructions on how to set up the poster

Page 5: Poster project rubric

Page 6: Example project

*TIP: Have students glue the construction paper poster to a manila folder and have it stand up to be displayed.

Resources: You don’t want students to be using “sexual reproduction” as search words in their internet so provide resources and insist students stick to the resources for definitions. One website and five videos are listed as possible resources for you to share with students.

Examples of organisms that can reproduce asexually are listed on the teacher tips and student guide. Examples include hydra, potatoes, daffodils, strawberry runners, some starfish, bacteria, irises, day lilies, spider plants, and more.
