★ Original Story: Little Red's Bad Day
★ Paint Strip Guided Practice Page (various versions provided, including blanks to add your words)
★ Word Cards and Definitions
★ Half Page Mini-Book
★ Two Writing Prompts
★ Two Questions to Ponder (applying shades of meaning to a new story)
★ ******UPDATED with new fonts, clip art, borders, added Shades of Meaning Visual Reference Cards and answer key.

How it Works
Read aloud the original story, Little Red's Bad Day, a take off on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. In this story, Little Red goes from being annoyed all the way to becoming indignant. As you read the story, students order the words (annoyed, mad, angry, vexed, irate, indignant) on the paint strip. Students can then make the half page mini-book to benefit from additional practice using the words.

Use the writing prompt to have students make personal connections to the words. The second writing prompt is for the student to turn Little Red's bad day into a GREAT DAY! Finally, have students complete the Questions to Ponder pages to apply their knowledge of shades of meaning.
