Trying to get your students to understand a higher level concept of shades of meaning? Look no further! Included in this file are 2 versions of notes on shades of meaning, one completed file and one fill in. Students can copy off the projector as the teacher explains. The examples can be done together as a class or individually. Visit your local hardware store to get free paint samples to complete the activity. There are instructions, examples, and a planning sheet. Students will choose a color, think about the connotation (I also have a connotations of color activity that can go with this!), and choose a word to use for their shades of meaning. The challenge is to write sentences with their shades of meaning words that include their paint color names. This is a fun activity that I like to hang up in my classroom. The entire file is editable.
