THIS NEW PRODUCT IS BEING OFFERED FOR 20% OFF FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS!
I created this product to use in my 4th grade class to help my students learn about “shades of meaning”. When writing, students tend to use the same, boring adjectives and verbs over and over. I wanted to show them how they can use a thesaurus to find words with similar, but more precise meanings, in order to make their writing more elaborative and meaningful.
Each of these printables have the same format, which includes the following 3 steps:
1. Given a common verb, adjective, or noun, students use a thesaurus (hard copy or online) to find 6 synonyms.
2. Next, students order the words based on the strength of their meaning. (The more specific the meaning, the stronger the word)
3. Last, students choose 2 of the words from their list and write a sentence for each. Sentences should show the meaning of the words they choose.
25 “Shades of Meaning” Printables are provided,
including pages for 10 verbs, 10 adjectives, and 5 nouns.
I also included 2 sample posters.
These “Shades of Meaning” Printables can be used for word work, homework, literacy centers, and much more.
