This vocabulary resource includes 10 shades of meaning mats and 30 illustrated synonym word cards. Students will order the synonyms according to their shades of meaning as they follow the instructions on each mat. This activity makes a great literacy center for all students. The picture supports also make it ideal for students who speak English as a second language (ELL / ESL).
To prolong their use, I recommend laminating these cards or printing them on sturdy cardstock before cutting them apart along the solid lines.
You can make this resource self-checking by writing the synonyms in the correct order on the back of the puzzle pieces. If you would like a written record of your students’ work, a recording sheet is included along with an answer key.
