Working with synonyms gets students thinking about their word choices in writing and in daily conversations. The results are -- an increased VOCABULARY! Increasing students vocabulary is a goal at ALL levels. My first graders love using the cards and by the end of the year they all have their favorite 'big' word from one of the cards which they love to use!
In this packet you will find 9 'shades of meaning' cards including:
using said for story telling
to show affection
to show fear
to show humor
to show excitement
for making up
to show happiness
to show anger
There are 9 blank cards in the same colors as the word cards. These cards are included for the class or individual students to record their own words. (additional blank cards in different colors are found in other Shades of Meaning packets)
A header card for each of the 9 cards is included in the colors of the matching card.
The 9 cards are presented in 3 different sizes which can be used in a variety of ways for the whole class or for individual students. - I post the large ones on the wall and have the small ones on hooks for the kids to take to their desk as they need them.
A poster including all 9 cards with all 72 words is also included.
