This is a fun and engaging experiment for studying patterns of shadows or the scientific method.
Read aloud or have students read The Case of Peter's Shadow. This is about a detective who is called to the house of a child having a temper tantrum. The child has heard the story of Peter Pan's shadow and at noon thinks his shadow got away like Peter's. Detective Grimes comes up with an experiment to show him the movement of shadows. Students are asked to complete the experiment for themselves and come to conclusions. They record their findings on an observation sheet which is provided.
