This Reader's Theater helps students connect with the many personality traits of Shah Abbas, the leader of the Islamic Safavid Empire. The Reader's Theater was designed to engage even low-level readers in rigorous content.
Students break into groups of 4 or 5 and participate in a role-play set in Shah Abbas' courts. Teachers can choose whether or not the scenes will be acted out in front of the class or simply in small groups. Each scene is followed by 1 to 2 reflection questions that highlight aspect of Abbas' personality.
The activity is great as an introduction to this historical figure or as a fun reinforcement to a previously taught lesson on the Safavids. Happy acting!
