This activity is such a fun way to reinforce the decomposition of the number six. Print the jack-o-lantern manipulatives back to back, laminate, and cut out the boxes. One side of each piece will be a happy jacko face, the other side will be a scary jacko face. Students will each get six pieces to put in a cup, shake, and spill. Have them count how many happy jackos and how many scary jackos they have. They will then draw the appropriate amount of happy faces and scary faces on their recording sheet. Then write the number of each.
Included are happy/scary jack-o-lantern manipulatives with colored backgrounds as well as happy/scary jack-o-lanterns with white backgrounds. I also included a recording sheet for this activity and also a graphing activity that practices graphing, counting, less, and more.
