PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Inspired by the TEDX presentation "Hip-Hop and Shakespeare?" by Akala, this product features a game in which students must decide if each line is from Shakespeare's plays or a song by a contemporary artist. There are 25 in total, and each slide has a line, the source, and animation. Artists include Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Kenny Chesney, Alicia Keyes, and more.

This is a great way to get students into Shakespeare (or BACK into Shakespeare) by demonstrating that the language he used and the style in which he used it is still vibrant and relevant today. In my class, small groups received the handout "Shakespeare or Not?" and were given time to go through and select answers for each one. We then went through the PowerPoint as a class and kept score, awarding bonus points if students could name the song or the play being referenced.

Product Includes:
-- A PowerPoint presentation with rules and 25 quotes with sources.
-- A question sheet with 25 quotes and answer choices (Shakespeare or Not) for each one.
-- An answer sheet

The presentation contains no inappropriate language (although one song is titled "Some Drugs"). It can easily be modified to suit your needs, and takes about 30-40 minutes to complete.

Thank you so much for looking!
