This 6-8 day customizable Shakesepeare introduction unit contains the materials and lesson plans needed to teach students the life of William Shakespeare and the basics of his sonnets. This includes a background into the rhyme and meter of the sonnet form. It could be used in any ELA classroom as an introduction to Shakespeare or one of his plays. I use it in my Shakespearean Literature course before reading any of his plays. The bundle includes:
-Introductory powerpoint to sonnet form and subject
-Handout and suggested instruction for iambic pentameter
-Lesson activities and resources to teach three Shakespearean sonnets (18, 71, and 29)
-2 video sheets for note-taking use (unfortunately, videos are not included due to copyright laws, but I do suggest two different videos that are great!)
-2 different quizzes assessing details of Shakespeare's life, sonnet form and meter, and the meaning of an untaught sonnet
-2 sonnet projects (one group, one individual) for the end of the unit
Each file in this resource is available in both PDF and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Word).
