This is a chart my students use while reading any Shakespearean play. It is designed to encourage students to read actively and think critically about the text. Since the Common Core State Standards promote more Shakespeare, I find myself using it often!
♛ In the far left column, have students record noteworthy quotations.
♛ In the corresponding column, have them analyze theme, figurative language, internal or external conflict, etc. You could also have them record questions about the text.
♛ During reading, stop and have students discuss in pairs or small groups what they recorded in their chart. You could also have students share individual questions with the class to inspire discussion.
✔ This two page chart is easily made into double-sided copies.
