When my love swears that she is made of truth
There would seem to be value in telling lies. We deceive ourselves rather than be deceived by another. That mutual deception allows for love to flourish. It is an intriguing conceit used by the poet which enables one to question and fathom what love actually is. Students should be encouraged to explore this notion further through the activities in the workbook and by listening to the reading of the sonnet. As with all the other sonnets in this series, there are set questions that can be given to the student. A convenient teacher answer sheet is also provided but students are also encouraged through group work to share knowledge and delve further.
