The Vocal Actor with Corbin Abernathy is pleased to offer this unit of work focusing on oratorical techniques that enhance the meaning of any text, but particularly makes Shakespeare more accessible to students. In fact, so many of my students would say things like,"Oh...so that's what this means!" I felt I just had to share. After finishing this unit, your students will be better prepared to begin work on Shakespearean soliloquies, monologues and scenes straightaway.
The first few pages are a teacher explanation and guide. Then comes a 5 Sequential Lesson Plan Unit. Handouts and resource material that correspond to each lesson follow and finally, I developed a performance rubric for a graded experience.
All material is highly adaptable to most any level of student. The gifted group will move through the unit fairly quickly, while an average group can take as much time as necessary to show significant progress without getting bogged down. The assessment rubric can be used as is or adapted to meet the needs of any particular class. Students always appreciate a clear understanding of what is expected of them and how they will be graded. Improvement and recognition of that improvement is inherent in this unit.
I hope you enjoy!
