The sonnets traditionally associated with admiration for a youthful man end. It culminates in what could be an unfinished sonnet though there is speculation if that is so. What we have seen is a transition where the poet has played a more dominant role and must find ways to explain and excuse his conduct. This is in direct contrast to earlier sonnets when the poet felt enslaved by his love. The readings on the PowerPoint give dimension to our appreciation providing an aural sense of the meter, cadence and rhyme. The workbook provides a range of practical activities that complement and supplement approaches taken in class or tutorial. Both individual and group activities allow for a range of ideas to be explored and the question sheets have a convenient answer sheet for the teacher.
