This is a lesson planned for a less able class of 11-12 year olds. The lesson was to introduce Shakespeare's "The Tempest". The lesson uses visual stimulus, hinge questioning and a short practical activity (paired/small group work to create a tableau) in order to introduce the setting and key themes of "The Tempest". The grammar focus is on enriching nouns by adding adjectives and on enhancing the description of action by adding adverbial phrases and adverbs to verbs. In my classroom, children respond to the 'a', 'b', 'c' option by making the shape of the letters with their arms. However, mini whiteboards could be used instead. There is no need for any photocopying - the two images that are used are intended to be displayed via the projector. I hope very much that you will find this useful with your class.
