This PowerPoint presentation introduces general information about William Shakespeare, his early life, and his background. Literary elements, specifically dramatic conventions, are also explained, such as soliloquy, monologue, aside, blank verse, etc. These literary elements are addressed in preparation of reading Romeo and Juliet; however, if Romeo and Juliet is not intended to be studied, other Shakespeare works can be applied with this presentation.
Once downloaded, the teacher will have the ability to adjust slide content if desired. This PowerPoint is set up for teacher instruction; however, this presentation has also been created to allow for student involvement. The same presentation (i.e. the same slides) appear twice: once (1) as a full presentation if you should want students to write all the information (with pertinent information noted in red) and again (2) with various blanks if you wish to print the slides in handout form so students can fill in the blank. Should you choose suggestion/option 2, prince the slides as a handout with 3 slides appearing on the left side of the paper. Then, because the blanks will be too small for students to write, they can write these numbers on the right side of the handout to correspond with what information goes in the blank.)
Printing the presentation is beneficial for students as pictures of the early theater are included.
