This packet explores 5 of Shakespeare's sonnets: #17, 29, 55, 73 and 116. For each sonnet, the poem is given and the students must give a line by line paraphrase, write a topic sentence that identifies the main idea of the poem, list new vocab words and their definitions, identify the figurative language, and write a clincher that summarizes the main idea. I did this as an in-class partners project, with 4-5 students in a group. Then the groups read the sonnets and shared their notes with the other students; it worked very well. A detailed answer KEY is provided.
