I use this activity before introducing one of Shakespeare's tragic plays. I usually use it in senior English classes once I know students have studied one or two tragedies before. Students must use their knowledge of tragedies (both Shakespearean and other tragedies) in order to brainstorm ideas on the terms, concepts, and themes provided (these include tragic flaw, appearance vs. reality, soliloquy etc.). This information will help students with many of the activities and assignments during the study of the play. Answer key is included.
