Includes a 7 minute video introducing features of blank verse like end stops, caesura and enjambment as well as the use of apostrophes and accents to expand and contract lines. Examples on slides. A quick look at the way verse is tightened and loosened to include rhyming couplets, whole poems or prose. The activity employed to apply this knowledge to Shakespeare's writing is a game called Feet Beat Bingo. 8 cards contain a few lines from the plays and students in groups complete the cards and match the versification feature called by the facilitator. This moves fast and is lots of fun. Play a few quick games of bingo and learn how blank verse works!
