This 20-slide PowerPoint introduces students to Shakespeare's language, preparing them to study his poetry and/or his plays. Students learn about Elizabethan pronouns, words like hither and hence, different vowel endings, and inverted word order. There are notes for students to fill in as they follow along with the lecture. This helps to demystify the bard for them!
I have also included two different worksheets for students to practice translating Shakespeare's language. I usually have students complete the worksheets in small groups. There is also an extensive vocabulary list (a big help for when they are working on their translations).
These materials could also be used to support any work of literature with Elizabethan or Tudor dialects.
