These are two short, one-page surveys that will help you assess students' interests and needs when reading Shakespeare's Macbeth. The pre-reading survey includes questions that indicate prior knowledge (such as if they have read sonnets by Shakespeare or other plays), questions that gauge their prior interest (such as whether they like theater/acting and what they thought of previous Shakespeare readings they may have encountered), and questions to help you tailor your unit to their needs (such as what they may need help with while reading). The post-reading survey reflects upon many of the same ideas, asking students to describe their experience reading Macbeth through several questions, and revisiting some important themes. The pre-reading survey may also work as a pre-test, pre-assessment, or anticipation guide.
